Abstract:
The administrative structure and territorial division of the Ottoman Balkans are still topics that have not been sufficiently elucidated yet. Time-consuming and monotonous, they are not particularly attractive. However, such studies are actually in a big help to the scholars for their demographic, political, social, and local studies. That is why my aim is to clarify the place of Turnovo and its region in the administrative structure and the territorial division of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. Turnovo and its adjacent territories are an interesting example as they cover a significant part of Central Northern Bulgaria and undergo a number of transformations in its administrative structure.
