The Monastery Network in the Western Nachiyes of the Sandzhak of Vidin as Part of the Diocese of Vidin in the 16th – 18th Centuries

Abstract:

The article draws its attention on the monasteries located on the territory of the border western nachia of the sanjak of Vidin, which were part of then eparchy of Vidin – Fetch-ul Islam, Timok, Svurlig, Banya and Cherna Reka. The number of monasteries is 29, which presents the lively religious life of these Bulgarian lands in the considered period. In the 16th–18th centuries they were part of the Metropolis of Vidin and now those which survived, are part of the Serbian Orthodox church.
