Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the cult of the most popular female saint in the Balkans – Saint Paraskeva (Petka) of Epivates who lived one thousand years ago. She is considered to give heavenly protection over the faithful Orthodox Christians and especially women in child-birth. The article draws attention on the movement of the chest with the saint’s holy relics and the spread of her cult in different Balkan countries, particularly in Bulgaria and Romania as the relics of the saint have been in Iaєi, Romania since 1641.
