Abstract:

The article examines the historical typology of traditional Bulgarian terminology for blood-kinship relations. The opinions available in ethnological research are followed, and an attempt is made for a new historical typology. It is assumed that the following historical types are typical for the development of traditional blood-kinship terminology amongst Bulgarians: Bifurcation Bifurcation- Linear Bifurcation-Linear-Generational. These are confirmed by the use of the reference blood-kinship terms and the specific features of the traditional patrilineal kinship system from the formation of the Bulgarian state (VII century) until the 1940s.

Keywords:

blood-kinship terms; relationship terminology; kinship system; bifurcation, linearity, paternal and maternal direct and a collateral line of relationship.
