Abstract:
The handwritten text of the Tarnovo Constitution has been held in the
Central State Archives in Sofia since 1953. This valuable historical document has
been transferred from its place very rarely, especially adapted to hold it safely. The
opportunity to work with the original text has led to new questions and answers related
to the topics discussed.
The significant details, unnoticed by scholars until now, were most important. During
the study, some of the official theses have been considered wrong. Although there is
a great amount of scientific publications on the Constitution and the First National
Assembly, there are still aspects connected with the calligraphic and graphic design
of the texts and the cover, which have never been discussed before. The original text
gives us new details about the deputies who signed the Tarnovo Constitution. The
thorough analysis reveals interesting details about the Bulgarian Renaissance elite
and the Russian national administration.
