Abstract:
The battles at Kaymakchalan Peak were the result and continuation of
the offensive operation, held in August 1916, that suffered a setback in the following
month as a result of a large-scale counteroffensive undertaken by the Entente troops.
Substantial forces were concentrated against the Bulgarian defenders at the peak,
and the latter was captured on 30 September 1916.
The last resource under Bulgarian command to intensify the Kaymakchalan part of
the front were two battalions: a machine-gun company and the Headquarters of the
43rd Infantry Regiment, but even their inclusion did not manage to retain control of
the position.
To researchers and the general public, two authentic documents are available in this
publication that are stored in the State Military Historical Archives in Veliko Tarnovo.
They contain a description of and valuable information about the participation
of the 43rd Infantry Regiment in the heroic defence of Kaymakchalan Peak in the
Nidzhe Mountain until its takeover by the enemy.
