Abstract:

The article presents the role of the USSR in drafting the Peace Treaty with Bulgaria after World War II. Moscow’s actions in defence of the Bulgarian interests at the Paris Peace Conference are discussed in the context of Soviet geopolitical interests, without forgetting two other factors – Bulgaria was defeated and had to pay the price of being a German ally, and, second, Moscow defended Bulgaria, always complying with the interests of its allies – the USA and Britain, as well as of Yugoslavia. This required compromises even when the Soviet Union was convinced of the correctness of Bulgarian argument.
