Abstract:

Following the accession of Croatia in July 2013, the enlargement process has been beset by challenges, the progress of reforms remains slow and uneven, sometimes experiencing significant reversals. The EU enlargement policy faces chronical problems, such as the challenges to the rule of law, corruption and weak democratic institutions. The European perspective of the Western Balkans is a strong driving force for reforms in the region. The public opinion in the region about the EU is very positive, and the majority of citizens would favour EU membership, but it should happen under new dynamic and result oriented methodology.
