Abstract:

The article shares reflections on the curious but poorly developed issue of the material traces of the Eastern nomads in the Second Bulgarian Kingdom through the prism of the so-called “Tatar Hegemony”. For this purpose, question mark-shaped earrings found in the medieval capital of Tarnovgrad were examined. Future studies and complex analyses of the discovered materials (jewels, armament, ceramics, coins) in the archaeological sites from the times of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom will allow more specifically to describe the syncretic manifestations of the “Tatar Hegemony" in the medieval Bulgarian times, whose political and cultural dimensions do not seem to match.
