Abstract:

The publication examines the trade in copper and iron, which is carried out by the Tapchileshtovi brothers and the trading company “Hadji Mincho Hadji Tsachev and Company”. It is based on archival documents the vast majority of which are transcripts of letters written in Greek. These historical sources give reason to assume that the copper trade between the mentioned entrepreneurs began no later than 1847 and continued at least until 1853 inclusive. The copper and iron that the Tapchileshtovi brothers sent to the company “Hadji Mincho Hadji Tsachev and Company” are mainly supplied from Russia. The deliveries of these raw materials were carried out through Varna or Svishtov. Subsequently, the copper was sold in various settlements in the Bulgarian lands (mainly north of the Balkan Mountains) – Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Ruschuk, Lovech, Vidin, and Kazanlak.

Keywords:

Bulgarian revival, economic activity, trade, metals (copper, iron, steel), brothers Hristo and Nikola Tapchileshtovi, Hadji Mincho Hadji Tsachev, Hadji Nikoli Minchoolu, the trading company “Hadji Mincho Hadji Tsachev and Company”.
