Abstract:
This article examines the development of relations between Bulgaria and Greece after the
democratic changes in 1989. In 1991, the Agreement on Friendship, Neighbourhood, Cooperation, and Security
was signed. It became the basis for the signing of a number of contracts in the field of security, education, and
culture, as well as the spiritual sphere. Serious attention is paid to the Agreement on the use of the waters of
the river Mesta, which was signed in 1995. The article traces a number of high-level official meetings held by
representatives of the two countries. Also is highlighted the significant role of the Hellenic Republic, as the
only member at that time of EU and NATO, in the process of integration of the Republic of Bulgaria into these
structures.
