Abstract:
After the abdication of Prince Alexander I of Bulgaria and the interruption of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Russia in November 1886, the issue of finding a suitable candidate for the Bulgarian throne becomes vital for the state. The outstanding officer and difficult child of the Habsburg dynasty – Archduke Johann Salvator – tries to help the Bulgarian government to solve the problem: without success, but with much adventure and good intentions.
