Abstract:
The Bulgarian conjunction otkolkoto da isn’t listed among the conjunctive elements through which restrictive subordinate adverbial clauses (of exclusion, restriction etc.) are integrated in higherranking sentences within polypredicative subordinating syntactic structures. The conjunction otkolkoto da differs from the conjunction otkolkoto which introduces into the complex sentence other types of subordinate clauses – of comparison, according to some authors, or of degree, quantity and time according to others. The conjunction otkolkoto da is synonymous with the conjunctions vmesto da, namesto da. deto shte and the now dated nezheli da. Just like these, otkolkoto da joins only one of the varieties of restrictive – substitutive clauses to a genuine or situational main clause. Grouping them into a discrete subtype is justified above all on the basis of the unequivocally substitutive semantics of the first conjunctive element, which together with the conjunction da constitutes a subordinating type of conjunctive configuration.
