Abstract:
The origin, word-building structure and semantics of 65 surnames, which are considered a Wallachian component in the Bulgarian anthroponymy, are analyzed. Most of them (42 surnames) are derived from Romanian lexical units. And 9 surnames are based on borrowings from Hungarian; other 9 surnames – on (Old)Bulgarian / (Pre)Slavic loanwords, and 5 surnames – on Turkish loans in Romanian. We assume that they are a Wallachian component, because they have some structural features, that are characteristic of the Romanian language, and above all certain wordformative suffixes: тор/tor for nouns of agents (Кройторов); for diminutive nouns: ел/el (Сурджелов), ейк/eic ( Сокурейков), ик/ic (Йониковски, Радочиков); уц/uţ ( Кавуцов); for augmentative nouns ой/oi (Маргоевски).
