Abstract:
Many of the Christian Saints‘ biographies do not only relate to the lives of great human characters, but also possess another value. Such a biographical text is „Life of Anscharius“, written ca. 865 – 870 by St. Rimbertus. This very precious work of the Latin language presents for the first time many facts about events from the history of the Nordic peoples and makes mentions of cities, monarchs and other important persons. From the literary point of view, the biography of St. Anscharius is distinguished by its natural expression and clear use of language. However, the greatest merit of the text is the spiritual one: it is an account of a sublime personage who does not only impress, but also inspire with his deeds and his whole life...
