Abstract:
This paper explores a corpus of texts under the name of “Types de Paris”, included in “Croquis Parisiens” by Joris-Karl Huysmans, with the intention of describing the aesthetic particularities of his narration. The analysis of the voice and narrator’s perspective shows the mixture of objective and subjective vision. These aspects outline the complicated aesthetic affiliation of the French writer, influenced by contrary literary schools – the naturalism and the decadence. The purpose of the task is to identify some typical aspects of his narration and to emphasize the influence of the naturalist stream in his work. For that reason we focus on the narrative voice and the perspective of narration in order to identify the narrator’s presence and to prove the specificity of Huysmans’ mode of writing. The main conclusion underlines the mixture of external and internal points of view and the objectivity of the narrator, which is though interrupted by subjectivism.
