Abstract:
There are in the Bulgarian and Rumanian anthroponymy a common fund of Christian names; a lot of suffixes which are equal for both languages; some similar types of traditional first names (as Rum. Lepãdat / Bulg. Намеран, Найден; Rum. Brãnduºa / Bulg. Минзухара); many surnames based on the Turkish borrowings, which are common to both languages; there are many similarities between these languages in the phonetic development of the names etc. These and any other circumstances as well as occurrences of the Rumanian/ Bulgarian or/and Rumanian/Bulgarian/Turkish homonymy determine numerous cases of a remarkable similarity between Bulgarian and Rumanian names and they make sometimes very difficult the study of their origin or linguistic appurtenance. That will be presented by study of the following problems: 1. Is the surname Брадянов related to Bulg. брадà ‘beard’ – or to Rum. brad in the same semantics like Bulg. first name Eлùца from ела ‘pine spruce (Abies alba)’? 2. What is the inherited one and what – the borrowed one in the structure of the surnames Божоров, Божориков, Божуриков etc.? 3. Is the Female Иляна or/and Елена synonymous or homonymous with Илияна? 4. Is the surname Горùлов based on Bulg. first name Горùл – or on something else? 5. Has the surname Горùцов or/and Гурùцов anything commonly with гора and/or горùца? 6. Is the surname Устùчков founded on устà (< тур. usta) ‘master’ or on another common noun?
