Abstract:

This contribution aims to: (1) record some of the most recent verbs formed with the suffix -iza, starting from toponyms (name of a country – a bulgariza, a kossoviza... , of a region – a balcaniza... ) or from ethnonyms (a slaviza... ), as well as the corresponding postverbal correspondents (bulgarizare, balcanizare, kossovizare, slavizare, ungurizare... ), (2) to explicitate the way they appeared în the Romanian language (loan or internal derivation), (3) to compare these creations with the possible etymological / morphological doubles (turcizare – turcire – turcificare, slavizare – slavificare – slavicizare... ), (4) to comment the semantic, stylistic and pragmatic differences developed în the case of these new formations with the suffix -iza, as compared to the old ones with the same suffix (a bulgariza1 – bulgarizare1 / a bulgariza2 – bulgarizare2, a iugoslaviza1 – iugoslavizare1 / a iugoslaviza2 – iugoslavizare2... ).
