Abstract:
In this paper the Enlightenment and its penetration in the Balkans during the 18th and the first half of the 19th century is considered. The historical prerequisites and the conditions for the rise of the movement for education in the Bulgarian lands are outlined in the context of the Greek- Bulgarian cultural relations. It is discussed in the paper the importance and the influence of the Enlightenment on the formation of the new Bulgarian intelligentsia and society as well as the means by which the ideas of the Enlightenment came in the Bulgarian lands. The author finds it necessary that all the preserved Greek documents that accompanied the activities of the educational centres during the period of the Bulgarian national revival should be searched methodically and studied analytically.
