Abstract:
The object of this paper is to compare the phraseological units with component “eyes” in Bulgarian and Modern Greek languages. The main focus of the analysis is on the system of conceptual metaphors in both languages, on similarities and differences among metaphorical schemes. There is significant relative share of phraseologisms in which the eyes are not seen as a specific anatomical organ of vision, but as intangible concepts, like cognition, intellectual comprehension, intelligence.
Keywords:
phraseological units, metaphorical model, conceptual metaphor, conceptualization of cognition
