Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to reveal the actual situation on the Bulgarian-Yugoslavian border during the specified period of time, on the basis of documents of the Border Security Force kept in the State Military Historical Archives in Veliko Tarnovo. In the text, the answers of some questions are sought concerning: the activities for the organization of the state border guard during the first years of the Bulgarian-Yugoslavian crisis which spanned from 1948 till 1953; the means of cooperation between the Border Security Force, the People’s Militia and the Committee for State Security; the intensity of the breaches of the state border. The research is an attempt to throw more light on the problem of the connection between the specific character of the state-political regime established in the country, the interstate crisis and the escalation of tension on the west Bulgarian border.
