Abstract:

This paper deals with some versions about Reverend Paisiy Hilandarski’s birthplace and his grave. He is the first Bulgarian historiographer of the modern era and the author of “Slav-Bulgarian History”, written in 1762. Other places, which also pretend to be the saint’s birthplace, are mentioned too. Attention is paid to Samokov’s history during the centuries. Likewise, some interviews with residents are presented. People who claim to be Paisiy’s relatives are mentioned. A reference to overlaps of other versions has been made. Bulgarian critics’ texts, with a regard to the theme, are taken under consideration.
