Abstract:
In the second half takes place massive redistribution of the population of Bulgaria related to internal migration and urbanization. By the mid-80s, the capital and regional cities have focused more than 40% of the population. One result was a depopulation of remote rural and border areas, and this demonstrates the effect of “centre-periphery”. Over the past two decades, the concentration still conditions an overall reduction of population. Significant changes have been observed in the distribution areas, administrative units and settlements. The contrasts in demographic and socio-economic development of the national territory get stronger.
