Abstract:
Great artistic values of folk literature, stressed by many researchers and scholars studying folk treasures, contribute to the preservation of the national identity through careful teaching analysis and also encourage international cooperation, contribute to the development of positive personality traits such as benevolence, humanity, tolerance, justness, truthfulness etc. Valuable folk literary creations in the Balkans with their poetic words of talented folk story- tellers, supported by ages-long folk wisdom and experience, teach mutual esteem, respect, tolerance, empathy for other people’s feelings and situations, compassion, all of which ensure the development of an accomplished, rich-in-spirit, noble, morally strong, humane and tolerant personality of a young person in the process of formation. The paper deals with the values of folk literature in the Balkans and the possibilities it offers for the education of a humane personality, which contributes to humanization of dehumanized world we live in today.
