Literature as a Sign of Time: Methodological Problems

Abstract:

The paper considers the following theses: 1. Literature can be a sign of the times. 2. This also applies to „transition countries“, where literature has experienced significant changes and, therefore, it may be a sign of structural social change, turbulence and anomie. 3. That sign can be read on the empirical level of explaining different facts, but also on the level of the hermeneutic understanding of both the reference of literary contents and the meaning of literary forms.
