Abstract:

The paper is a comparative analysis of the Balkan countries related to their exports of tourist services. The survey is based on the Balassa Index, which measures the comparative advantages of exports. Purpose of this study is to reveal the comparative advantages between the Balkan countries in exports of travel services and on this basis to establish the main reasons for their presence. All countries that are wholly or partly located on the Balkan Peninsula are covered. The analysis is based on the Balassa index. In addition, a tourist intensity index was used. The results show that there is considerable asymmetry between the Balkan countries. Countries with significant access to the Adriatic coast and Greece have the highest comparative advantages. In some of them the comparative advantages are achieved with greater tourist intensity than others. In Turkey, the Balassa index values are neutral, and in all other countries they show a relative disadvantage.
