Abstract:

The agricultural sector is strategically vital. The risk in the sector is related to the decision of the farmer. The result is unknown, uncertain. The agricultural sector is subject to negative impacts. This requires management of potential risks. The existence of risk (including in the agricultural sector) exists when the future is unknown. And the uncertainty depends on the farmer’s ability to anticipate all the possible outcomes that may or may not occur. Risk management can prevent crises in the agricultural sector. The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) protects human and animal health. There are different risk classifications. The risk may be external and/or internal; economic, political, sanitary, environmental, institutional and others. Risk management instruments are: direct payments, green direct payments, state aid, market measures and more. The European Union’s rural development program finances risk management in the agricultural sector for the period 2014–2020 (in Bulgaria – measure 17 Risk management)
