Abstract:

Digitalization requires organizations to attract and retain the necessary staff to keep up with technological change. In the field of accounting, a framework for competences has already been established for both management and professional accountants in the business sector. Worldwide research conducted at the end of 2019 reveals a growing tendency to improve the professional skills of employees working in the field of financial accounting. This is required for them in order to be able to support their organizations in addressing the challenges of digitalization, but also to retain their jobs. This publication considers the challenges, possible paths for future development and ways to acquire the competencies future accountants should possess. One of the main questions is to what extent academic institutions provide their students with the necessary competencies for management and professional accountants in the digital age.
