Abstract:

Spain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Apart from the traditional types of tourism, the importance of religious tourism has been growing in recent years. The main prerequisite for this is the widespread spread of Catholicism in the Spanish lands and the numerous religious and cultural monuments. Santiago de Compostela, the capital of the Autonomous Community of Galicia, plays an important role in this regard. The famous Santiago Road, the first European cultural tourist route, reaches there. Travel on the Roads of Santiago changed significantly in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic hit this tourist segment very hard, and the number of pilgrims fell sharply.
