Abstract:

Opportunities for tourism development in East Timor are relatively few, given the recent ongoing struggle for independence, and the relatively small number of international visitors. It will probably take some time to re-attract international visitors by improving tourism development opportunities, and it will also take time for other countries to soften their travel recommendations in East Timor, which is an important step in making the country more attractive place to relax. Of interest are the cultural and Portuguese colonial heritage, the history of the resistance and the local culture.
