Abstract:
Public investments in the context of Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) play a significant role in the strategic development of territories and regions. ITIs are a tool for mobilizing resources and coordinating various public and private initiatives, with the aim of supporting the economic and social recovery and development of specific territories that need integrated and sustainable solutions. This paper aims to present the essence and mechanism of ITI functioning, as well as the main characteristics of public investments in the context of ITI and their application in Bulgaria. During the current programming period (2021–2027) the implementation of the integrated territorial approach implies a completely new way of thinking when carrying out public investments—the emphasis is on supporting the development of territories, without being limited by the administrative borders of municipalities, in close cooperation of all entities.
