Abstract:

This report provides an analytical overview of the tourism sector in the Municipality of Kyustendil, highlighting the key drivers of its development. It identifies the region’s main assets— mineral springs, rich cultural and historical heritage, and strategic geographic location—as essential foundations for sustainable tourism growth. The study reviews the current state of tourism infrastructure, including accommodation capacity, spa and balneological facilities, natural and cultural attractions, and transport connectivity. It also assesses economic and social factors impacting the sector, with particular attention to challenges such as seasonality, market competition, and a shortage of skilled labor. Strategic recommendations are proposed to modernize tourism services through the adoption of digital marketing tools, implementation of sustainable tourism practices, and encouragement of public-private partnerships. The report concludes with targeted measures to boost the region’s competitiveness, such as the development of festival and eco-tourism, infrastructure improvements, and enhancement of Kyustendil’s international visibility as a tourist destination.
