Abstract:

In the paper, the author observes the relationship between the Early Christian view of the creation of the world and the bearers of the syncretic tendencies of Gnosticism. First of all, the subject of analysis is the preserved sections and reports of, primarily, Irenaeus of Lyons and Hippolytus of Rome on the gnostic vision of the question of the genesis of the world, through the personalities of Vasilides and Valentinus. Having established the essential characteristics of Gnostic cosmology, the direction of the work is directed towards the basic principles of Early Christian kthysiology. The final course of the work analyzes the question of the creation of the world in the work of the African thinker, Tertullian, a question raised in the context of disputes and conflicts with another Gnostic group, whose representatives are Marcion and Hermogenes. On those grounds, an authentic framework of the relationship between Early Christian theology, in general, and Gnosticism can be provided.
