The biographic sketch of pope Stoyko Vladislavov – St. Bishop Sofroniy Vrachanski has been presented. It is shown his rich cultural heritage. The point is given to the famous autobiographical work Life and sufferings of the sinful Sofroniy. Are described the composition parts of the work. It is presented the point of view of critics, defining the Life as an autobiographic novel building the foundations of the new Bulgarian literature and especially of the Bulgarian memoirs. The Sofroniy creation bears in its title the genre definition life but its nature differs from the poetics of the most popular medieval literary genre. At variance with the hagiographic canons Sofroniy wrote his own autobiography starting the text with the phrase: I, the sinful in people… This putted on the first plan author’s I (me, myself) is the key for revealing the core of the narration. The stylistic characteristics of the Sofroniy’s autobiographic novel in a specific way corresponds to the modern criteria of artistry. In Life and sufferings was realized the saga type of narration – with regard to the organic of the author’s reflection, as well as a speech expression. At Sofroniy one could talk about psychologism unfamiliar to the men of letters before him.
