Abstract:

Variation is closely connected with the loan-word process, when a foreign word adapts to the phonetic and grammatical system of a recipient language. Adaption and variation are connected with the interaction of two different structured toponymic systems functioning in one region. The article deals with the Kazakh place names which are used in the Russian speech in intercultural communication of two ethnic groups — the Kazakh and Russian.

Keywords:

variability, phonetic adaptation, morphologic adaptation, doublets of Kazakh toponyms, Russian toponyms
