Contraction of Serbian male proper names of one stem

Abstract:
The contraction of any syllable in the basic forms of Serbian male proper names occupies an important position in anthroponymic hypochoristic derivation. The present article studies the hypochoristic forms derived from one-component domestic and foreign male proper names in the Serbian language. Both domestic and foreign proper names have been subjected to contraction. The appearance of short forms of foreign proper names, quite often of many syllables and with an unusual distribution of phonemes, on the other hand, has been one of the basic methods for their adaptation in the Serbian anthroponymic system.
