Abstract:

The article is about the islands in the Danube situated along the border between Bulgaria and Romania – from the mouth of the Timok river where its Bulgarian part starts to the town of Silistra where it ends. The Danube border between Bulgaria and Romania is 471 km long and there are about 130 islands along it, 70 of them are Bulgarian and 60 are Romanian. All of them have specific names which are related to the coast settlements, their shape, the prevalent vegetation, the activity of the people, the animals and the birds which live there and other factors.
