Abstract:
The family name “Marov” is one of the oldest and most common names in Europe. Records of birth, baptism and dying are found east of Russia and Ukraine and reach west to the British Isles. In Cyrillic, it has the Mar base and the ending -on, but in Central and Western Europe there are grammatical changes. In places using Latin, the surname is the basis “Mar”, in certain cases “Marr” and takes several endings: -ov, -of, - off, - ow, this transition being formed from east to west. The anthroponymy of the Marov family name is associated with a personal name, but there are other hypotheses that are shown to be less likely but possible to exist.
Keywords:
Marov ending in -ov; -of; -off; -ow.
