Abstract:

The article analyzes 20 quotations from the Holy Scripture in the text of the Ladder of Divine Ascent of John Climacus. The main material for analysis is Deč. 71 – a manuscript of Tаrnovo origin. Additional materials are texts from the most ancient Russian manuscripts of various localities (Kyiv, Volyn, Novgorod, Moscow). The article is written in line with the studies of collective church memory. Quotes are adduced that have the same lexical content in the texts of the Tаrnovo and Russian manuscripts, and which have been transmitted differently by a Bulgarian scribe and Russian scribes. The study clarifies the issues of existence of the Ladder on Bulgarian territory. By the mid-14th century, there were two Bulgarian redactions of its text. The author of one of them used the Greek text of the Ladder, while the other one did not do so. The appendix contains quotes included in the individual archive of the church memory of the Tarnovo scribe from the mid-14th century.
