Abstract:
This publication is an introduction to a comprehensive study of the epistolary texts of St. Patriarch Euthymius. A source for the study of the epistle to Monk Cyprian is its edition in manuscript copy No. 317 at the Library of the Romanian Academy of Sciences, Bucharest (16th century, рр. 44–67), with variant readings in manuscript No. 61 at the Library of the Rila Monastery (according to E. Kalužniacki). The purpose of the research is to publish the text of a previously unpublished transcript, to establish the biblical metatext, and to outline the intertextual connections with the patristic literature, indicative of the theological erudition of the medieval scribe. The text of the epistle refers to a corpus of monastic readings, selected and confirmed in the practice of the Bulgarian Hesychast monastic community from Athos, Paroria and Tarnovgrad. The work contains an archeographic reference to the transcripts of the message and their distribution, as well as a brief review of scientific publications devoted to it.
