Abstract:
This publication presents role play as an important component of children’s learning. It is not only a pleasant and ‘playful’ activity, but also a social environment where students may reflect on and expand their knowledge of a topic, as well as enhance their creativity and imagination. The key is to involve them in a genuine setting and then let them envision themselves as the person in that position. Students face several challenges when learning English, such as inability to develop speaking skills, which can have a severe impact on their academic performance. This issue appears to arise from the traditional teaching methods, commonly utilized in primary schools to teach English studies, which results in a decrease in learners’ active engagement in the instructional process. Children in primary schools like being active, and limited involvement may result in them being uninterested in the lesson, which may lead to underperformance in English studies. The rules of role play are quite simple: role plays must be focused; objectives and instructions must be clear and understood; and feedback must be precise, relevant, doable, and swiftly delivered.
