Abstract:

Children in preschool and primary school age are curious, active, creative, and eager to acquire new knowledge and skills. By placing them in different situations that require joint activity and good communication, they acquire a range of knowledge and skills that are necessary in the further stages of their education, as well as for their future professional realization. Teamwork skills are developed through joint activities with others. There are neither theoretical stipulations for them, nor rules that one can learn in order to acquire them. Suitable activities for their development and improvement are the ones applicable in the learning process or in extracurricular forms of activity and promoting effective communication between team members and their cooperation. The possession of these skills by children prepares them not only for the contemporary challenges and global problems we are facing today, but also for STEM education which has gained increasing popularity in the learning environment in Bulgaria in recent years. This report aims to present the essence of extracurricular forms of activity, teamwork skills and the need for developing them, the nature of STEM education, as well as a tested activity for developing teamwork skills in 6–7-year-old children.
