Abstract:

From a theoretical and methodological point of view, this report outlines the connection between the research (external) and the applied (internal) position of the one who knows/creator and the known/created. Both perspectives – scientific-cognitive and practical-applied, – are somewhat contained in each other, regardless of the purpose and position of the subject. In design research as an epistemological genre, these positions are occupied in parallel for the entire course of the study. The leading features are mainly expressed in: the dual purpose and ongoing ad hoc updates in the procedures; the cyclicality of conducting the study (without being longitudinal); and the simultaneous involvement of the researcher as a practitioner with a specific application assignment and of, often and directly, stakeholders with practical experience in the research procedures and analysis. The presentation of educational design research and its methodological peculiarities is based on the author’s personal experience within the framework of a 3-year study, introduced in Bulgaria for the first time in the context of higher education. Thе paper does not discuss procedures of or results from this study.
