Abstract:
The study presents the curricula for special educational subjects for children and students with visual impairments, which are covered in the Ordinance on Inclusive Education. A theoretical analysis of the main regulatory documents and literary sources on the subject has been made. The main focus is on the Orientation and Mobility Program for visually impaired students, which is used when working with such children. This program is key to achieving self-confidence and independence in everyday life. Orientation involves the formation of basic concepts of space and the relationships between objects in the environment, one’s own body, and the active use of the remaining senses and their participation in the orientation process. Mobility builds the following skills: moving with the help of a sighted person—a guide; moving outdoors along specific routes; moving with a white cane; moving independently in familiar and semi-familiar environments; seeking help when needed, and dealing with problematic situations while moving around.
