Abstract:
The years in between 1902–1912 can be viewed as the most troubled era of Macedonian history. At this time Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania all had conflicting vested interests in Macedonia. Each one of these Balkan states had a large European state supporting its interests. All of these states and their supporting European counterparts maneuvered to find a solution to the Macedonian problem that would unravel in their benefit. This drive fort the perfect angle caused the region to plummet into conflict, anarchy and terror. The Turkish- muslim comminity was the hardest to be hit by the resulting chaos. Whilst all parties involved were looking to alleviate the hardships of the Christians of the region, no such panacea was formulated fort he turks and Muslims. In conclusion it can be said that the Turks and Muslims were the aggrieved party in the dispute over Macedonia on the eve of the Balkan War.
