Characteristics of the Industrialization in Turnovo 1879–1919

Abstract:

Аll big firms in Turnovo started producing with amount of capital that is four times lower than the average for the country. Diagram 1 confirms the conclusion that in Turnovo after the Liberation there are no big scale economic enterprises. The only exception from this rule is the founded by Hadzhilisichevi brothers and Ivan Halachev beer fabric. It is proved that the mentioned by K. Panayotova and I. Stoyanov regrouping of capital from one industry to another is characteristic for the period and its aim is quick profit. It has to be mentioned that a part of the big capitalists in Turnovo invest inherited money: P. Velkov – from his father (cattle merchant), Hadzhislavchevi brothers – from their father Hadzhi Slavcho Hadzhi Paskalev. Another part of the big capitalists is politically biased: Gorgio Momchev, Ivan Halachev, Angel Popov (Popular liberal party), Georgi Petkov (wide socialist, owner of threads fabric „Trapezitsa”). In Turnovo there are missing the characteristic for Gabrovo and the other industrial centers entrepreneurs that rised from the guilds because of their personal qualities.
