Abstract:

The end of the Civil war (1861–1865) in the United States of America was accompanied and with another socially-significant event – the murder of the president – emancipator of the slaves – Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865). The death of one of the most famous American leaders put the country in complicated political, economic and society situation. Proclaimed by the Honor Abe documents during the civil conflict between the North and the South did not succeed to fulfill its major purpose to abolish slavery in the US. Accepted few months before Lincoln’s death, the thirteenth amendment was ratified with great difficulty after a year – only during the management of his successor – Andrew Johnson (1808–1875). Politically disoriented, Southerner but odds with the Southerners, living in the North, but not liked and from the Northerners, the new president had the difficult assignment to handle with the Reconstruction in the South rebellion states. Andrew Johnson applied, with some digressions, Lincoln’s plan of Reconstruction. Johnson’s Presidential reconstruction, however, was very convinced by the very powerful group of the Radical republicans in Congress. Due to the circumstances, Johnson’s South governments were proclaimed for illegal and were destroyed, and the Congress drawn its own Reconstruction program.
