The earthquake of March 4, 1977 with an epicenter Romanian district of Vrancea (Romania) is the strongest earthquake for this year in all Europe, with the region greatest implications for the development of the Socialistic Republic of Romania (SRR) and the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (PRB). There is no accurate data on the number of deaths, injuries and destructions in both the SRR and PRB. In Romania Vrancea earthquake strongly affects Bucharest – 9 districts (out of 39), cities of Craiova, Ploeєti and especially Zimnicea and a number of villages. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and other socialist countries also sent help in the form of cash and products for the injured romanian people. German Democratic Republic (GDR) leave 10 million marks and Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (CSSR) 25 million krones. Bulgarian government granted aid amounting to 200 000 levs, Polish People’s Republic (PPR) and Hungarian People’s Republic (UPR) sent food, medicines, automotive tools, light equipment and machines. After the earthquake in southern Bulgaria on April 14 and 18, 1928 for about 50 years occurs attenuation of seismic activity until March 4, 1977, when the Vrancea earthquake affects considerably PRB. Most strongly felt in Russe, Veliko Tarnovo, Vratsa and other districts. The strength of the seismic wave in the PRB is from IV to VIII grade on the Medvedev- Sponheuer-Karnik scale. It was felt throughout the country, especially in northeastern Bulgaria and especially in Svishtov, where the earthquake is a VIII grade.
