Abstract:

It is decades since one and the same old, and not well-founded theses of the genesis and the special features of one of the most interesting and significant natural lakes in Bulgaria (the Rabish lake, the Srebarna lake, the Shabla lake) are being taught, not only from school books, but from scientific editions of universities and academies as well. These lakes are classified together with certain types of lakes, with which they have little or nothing to do with. Up to now, in the history of Bulgarian geographic literature, no one has raised the question about the existence of seaside karst lakes as well. Only the existence of lagoons and firths is highlighted, but this does not correspond to the geographical reality. The questions about the karstification processes, the peculiarities of the karst and of the forming of karst lakes are fundamental. They contribute to the overall comprehension, interpretation, preservation and conservation of the karst landscapes.
