Abstract:
This paper focuses on the marriage and conjugal relations during the pre- Christian and Christian period of the First Bulgarian Empire. The analysis is based on the Ecloga and the entirely Bulgarian Zakon sudnyi ljud’m (Court Law for the People). The Nomocanon (preserved today as the Kormchaia Book) presents the Christian point of view. Also presented here are the documents of the Archbishopric of Ohrid, collected by Demetrios Chomatenos.
